Inspired by the novel "La noche de la Usina" by Eduardo Sacheri, the film "La Odisea de los giles" lightly tackles a dark period in Argentina's recent history: the corralito crisis. Meaning "small paddock", the corralito is the name given to the economic measures taken on 1 December 2001 by the Minister of the Economy, Domingo Cavallo. This economic crisis is considered to be the catalyst for the largest payment default in history. As a result, this period was synonymous with the growth of precariousness among the population and many Argentines saw their savings disappear. Sebastián Borensztein, the director of this film, sublimates this unstable period, both economically, politically and socially, with great humour.
