3 training and research centers for exploring and innovating
With three training and research centers, IMT Mines Albi specializes in areas of expertise that are both innovative and forward-looking. Working with IMT Mines Albi means promoting research that respects the environment and focuses on the challenges of the future. IMT Mines Albi’s training and research centers have developed partnerships with major companies to form joint research laboratories and industrial chairs. IMT Mines Albi looks to the future, investing in innovative and meaningful research programs in line with its areas of expertise.
Industrial Engineering Center
Experts in industrial engineering and artificial intelligence.
The Industrial Engineering Center is one of IMT Mines Albi’s three education and research centers. It develops decision-making tools based on Artificial Intelligence technologies to better understand the risks and opportunities that organizations and networks of organizations are now facing. Its main areas of application are logistics and production systems, crisis management systems and healthcare systems. Didier Gourc is acting director of the Industrial Engineering Center.

The Industrial Engineering Center's research areas are:
• flexible logistics systems for a sustainable world
• digital systems for crisis management and security
• organizational systems for health and well-being
• territorial resilience, agility, and the circular economyThe Industrial Engineering Center is also a center for promoting added value. It helps companies implement their research programs, facilitating their development from the initial formulation of problems to the demonstration of solutions in an operational environment.
The Industrial Engineering Center has an experimentation and immersion center that includes an IT unit and a research platform called IOMEGA. The IOMEGA platform is divided into two technical platforms: one specialized in immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, the other specialized in demonstrating expertise in Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Engineering.

The RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302 research center (Recherche d’Albi en génie des Procédés des SOlides Divisés, de l’Energie et de l’Environnement - Albi Research in Process Engineering of Divided Solids, Energy and the Environment) is an IMT Mines Albi training and research center specializing in process engineering, with a focus on harnessing the functional properties of products. It has been a joint research unit of IMT Mines Albi and the CNRS since 2001. Patricia Arlabosse is the current Director of the RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302 research center.

RAPSODEE specializes in powders or divided solids. The training and research center masters the characterization of solids and process engineering. The RAPSODEE UMR CNRS 5302 center combines a range of scientific expertise, rarely found in a single entity, in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, process engineering, energetics, thermodynamics and modeling/simulation. Its fields of application are energy, the environment and health.
The RAPSODEE center has two platforms whose activities are focused on a process engineering approach oriented towards “products with controlled properties”:
- VALTHERA platform focused on thermal recovery of organic waste for energy and the environment
- GALA® platform focused on new health galenic formulations
Through the support they provide to R&D, these two platforms implement material resources and methodological tools giving manufacturers more flexibility in their technological choices. The RAPSODEE center also boasts high-precision equipment for characterizing the raw materials handled and the solid, gaseous and/or liquid co-products generated, and understanding the transformations undergone by materials, from the micro to the macro scale. This equipment can be used for a wide range of analyses in a variety of industrial fields.
To help companies develop and improve their competitiveness, the RAPSODEE center develops multi-physics and multi-scale models, based on experiments, and data models, possibly coupled, for optimal control of industrial processes using deep learning.
