🇹🇬 Francophonie Week at IMT Mines Albi in partnership with the University of Lomé in Togo

As part of Francophonie Week, IMT Mines Albi is offering its students an international experience on campus for the first time, by hosting faculty members from the University of Lomé (Togo) through the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program (KA171), which has been in place since 2023. On the agenda: courses focused on the challenges of sustainable development and the energy transition.

International

The 1st edition of Francogénies: an international collaboration at the heart of education

As part of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program (KA171), which has been in place since 2023, three faculty members from the University of Lomé are teaching elective courses at IMT Mines Albi. This is the first edition of Francogénies. This initiative demonstrates the school’s commitment to strengthening its international outreach and offering enriching academic experiences right on campus.

Courses focused on sustainable development issues

Three modules are offered to engineering students, addressing major energy, environmental, and industrial challenges:

  • Introduction to Photovoltaic Solar Energy – by Justin Akoro
This course highlights the key role of photovoltaics in the energy transition, particularly in the production of clean energy and sustainable access to electricity.
  • Introduction to Port Logistics – by Kodjo Attipou
Students explore the strategic role of ports in international trade, incorporating the challenges of decarbonization, economic performance, and environmental responsibility.
  • Utilizing Local Materials – by Senanou Gbafa
This module covers bio-based and geosynthetic materials, as well as the analysis of their life cycle, carbon footprint, and recyclability.

Through these courses, students develop a comprehensive understanding of the challenges of sustainable development in various international contexts, particularly in Africa. This initiative is fully aligned with IMT Mines Albi’s strategy to train engineers capable of thriving in a globalized world, while fostering cooperation within the French-speaking community.

Promoting Entrepreneurship and Exploring Albi's Heritage

This event provided an opportunity for the two partner institutions to discuss their practices regarding entrepreneurship and the National Student Entrepreneur Status. It also served as an opportunity to discuss the mentor-mentee program implemented at IMT Mines Albi, which ensures that every student receives individual guidance and support from a member of the school’s staff throughout their academic career.

In addition to these topics, the visit also gave faculty members from the University of Lomé the opportunity to explore Albi and its exceptional heritage, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through cultural exchanges and immersion in the local community, this experience helped strengthen both personal and academic ties, while highlighting the appeal of the living environment offered by IMT Mines Albi.
