The Eiffel Scholarship program was developed by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and allows French higher education institutions to attract the best international students onto Master's and PhD degree programs. This year, 3 students have been selected as winners of the Eiffel Scholarship Excellence Program for their academic excellence. Jareny Flores Zamudio, a graduate of the University of Veracruzana in Mexico, is one of this year’s scholarship winners. She will join IMT Mines Albi in September 2022.

¿Puedes presentarte?
Me llamo Jareny Flores Zamudio. Nací en Xalapa, Veracruz en México. Tengo 24 años y acabo de recibir mi diploma de Ingeniero en alimentos en la Universidad Veracruzana en México. Desde que era pequeña, me intereso mucho por la alimentación, la nutrición y las ciencias. Soy una mujer curiosa, a la que le gustan los ambientes multiculturales, las lenguas extranjeras, intercambiar puntos de vista y aprender de los demás. En 2018 tuve la oportunidad de estudiar en el INSA-Lyon durante un año gracias a que fui merecedora de la beca MEXFITEC. Esta experiencia me permitió descubrir Francia y su alto y competitivo nivel educativo. Es por eso que, a mi regreso a México me fije como objetivo regresar a Francia para especializarme en una escuela de ingenieros en francesa y estar mejor preparada para el futuro. Además de la escuela, disfruto mucho los deportes al aire libre, como el ciclismo y correr. Me gusta fijarme desafíos nuevos siempre.
¿Qué representa para usted recibir la Beca de Excelencia Eiffel?
Para mí, la obtención de la Beca Eiffel ha sido mi mayor logro. Es la culminación de todo el esfuerzo y la dedicación que di a lo largo de mi formación. Sé que los aspirantes a esta beca son los mejores estudiantes del mundo entero, es por eso que estoy muy contenta y orgullosa de haber obtenido el privilegio de ser merecedora a esta beca. Además, estoy muy contenta ya que soy la primera mujer de mi universidad en alcanzar este objetivo. Ganar esta beca es el comienzo de lo que será el más grande desafío que he tenido hasta ahora, pero estoy lista y motivada para hacerlo.
¿Cómo fue el proceso de candidatura?
El proceso de mi candidatura comenzó en 2019 cuando regresé de Francia. Certifiqué mi nivel de francés, B2, y me concentré en obtener las notas más altas de mi clase. Posteriormente contacté al IMT Mines Albi para hacer de su conocimiento mi interés de ser aceptada en la formación de Ingeniero. Una vez que fui aceptada por el comité de admisión, comenzamos a llenar los formularios de mi candidatura. Durante todo este proceso estuve muy acompañada del señor Carrière y José Luis Farfán, quienes estuvieron todo el tiempo al pendiente de mis dudas e inquietudes.
¿Cómo conoció IMT Mines Albi?
La primera vez que escuché hablar del École de Mines d’Albi fue en 2016 gracias a que la señora Dufour vino a México a presentar el centro a mi universidad. Posteriormente, una de mis mejores amigas tuvo la oportunidad de cursar un año en el IMT. Ella me platicó con mayor detalle acerca de la calidad y el nivel de la escuela. Con estos precedentes comencé a investigar más de la escuela y las especializaciones que ofrecen, así como la proximidad entre los estudiantes y las empresas. Por último, en 2021, la señora Dufour regresó a México para presentar las colaboraciones existentes entre nuestras universidades. En ese momento supe que el École de Mines d’Albi era el centro en el que quería realizar mi especialización.
¿Qué espera de estos dos años de estudio en Francia?
Estoy consciente de que estos años no serán fáciles, estarán llenos de desafíos y de aprendizajes tanto personales como profesionales. En estos dos años, espero convertirme en una ingeniero más competitiva y mejor preparada, capaz de resolver problemas alimentarios a los que nos enfrentamos hoy en día. También, espero tener la oportunidad de realizar prácticas profesionales en alguna empresa alimentaria francesa o internacional. Por último, me gustaría mejorar mi nivel de francés y poder aprender más acerca de la cultura y las tradiciones francesas.
¿Cuáles son sus planes para el futuro?
Estoy abierta a las oportunidades que se me presenten, ya sea en Francia, en México o inclusive en algún otro país. Sin embargo, me gustaría comenzar mis primeros años de trabajo en Francia para poder aplicar mis conocimientos y aprender y observar la manera de trabajar en Francia y como están organizadas las empresas. A largo plazo, me gustaría emprender con una empresa alimenticia que tenga como misión ayudar en la resolución de los problemas alimentarios y de salud a los que nos enfrentamos hoy en día.
Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Jareny Flores Zamudio. I was born in Xalapa, Mexico. I am 24 years old and have just graduated in Food Engineering from the University of Veracruzana in Mexico. Ever since I was little, I have been interested in food, nutrition, and science. I am a curious woman who loves multicultural environments, foreign languages, exchanging views, and learning from others. In 2018, I had the opportunity to study at INSA Lyon for one year, as a winner of the MEXFITEC scholarship. This experience allowed me to discover the French education system and its high quality and competitiveness. As soon as I returned to Mexico, my goal was to come back to France to major in a French engineering school, in order to enrich my knowledge and better prepare myself for the future. I also like to do sports outdoors, like cycling or running, and am always setting myself new challenges
What does winning the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship mean to you?
For me, obtaining the Eiffel scholarship is my greatest achievement. It is the culmination of all the effort and dedication I have put into my studies. Knowing that I am competing with some of the best students in the world, I am very happy and proud to have obtained this privilege. Furthermore, I am delighted to be the first woman from my university to win it. Although winning the scholarship is the beginning of what will be the greatest challenge of my life so far, I am motivated and ready to get started.
What was the application process like?
My application process started in 2019 when I returned from France. Firstly, I certified my B2 level in French and focused on my classes to get the best grades. I then contacted IMT Mines Albi in October 2021 to express my interest in joining the engineering program. Once I was accepted by the school, we started preparing my application form for the Eiffel Scholarship. I was given a lot of support by the school during this process. I would also like to thank my friend José Luis Farfán, who was always looking out for me and my doubts
How did you hear about IMT Mines Albi?
My first encounter with IMT Mines Albi was in 2016 when they came to present themselves in my university in Mexico. Then, one of my best friends was able to join IMT and she told me about the quality and level of the school in more detail. The more I looked into it, the more I was attracted to IMT Mines Albi, especially in regard to its majors and proximity to businesses. Recently, another event was held by IMT Mines Albi in Mexico to present the collaboration between our schools. From all this information, I was convinced that IMT Mines Albi was made for me.
What do you expect from these two years of study in France?
I am aware that there will be plenty of challenges and learning experiences, both in school and in my personal development. At the end of these two years, I would like to become a competitive engineer, ready and able to solve the problems that we are facing in the field of nutrition today. I would also like to have the opportunity to work more closely with French and international food companies. Furthermore, I would like to improve my level of French and learn more about French culture.
What are your plans for the future?
I am open to any opportunities that may arise in France, Mexico, or another country. However, I would prefer to spend my first few years of work in France to put my knowledge into practice, and also to observe and adapt myself to their way of working. In the long run, I would like to start a company with the aim of helping to solve the food and health problems that we face today in the world.
